The Heritage Office of Dun Laoghaire Rathdown Co Council prepared a conservation plan for the Dalkey Islands - Dalkey Islands Conservation Plan 2013-2023 - in June 2013 & invited public comment. (text of plan at link below)
The vision of the Dalkey Islands Conservation Plan as set out ‘to manage the islands as a unique heritage asset, to endeavour to safeguard, preserve, maintain, promote awareness of, try to facilitate appropriate access & to manage under the principle of minimal intervention’ is very much similar to the general aims of Save our Seafront.
SOS compiled a submission in August 2013 congratulating the steering committee on this excellent Conservation Plan.
However, our submission also noted in particular that any approval of proposals for a wind farm and/or an oil rig in the area would undoubtedly have a negative impact on the character, heritage & wildlife of the islands and probably interfere with tidal flow & deposition around the islands.
Such development would be incompatible with the preservation of the sense of isolation, the wildness which, as the Plan mentions, is such a valuable characteristic of the islands.
